Our Patrons
Steve Parkinson
Steve Parkinson is the Managing Director of Kiss and Magic, two of the UK’s most successful music media brands, spanning radio, tv and online. Each of the forty three Bauer radio stations now has Cash for Kids charities, of which Steve is a patron and board member. In addition Steve is on the fundraising board of Nordoff Robbins – the music therapy charity for children. It is wonderful that Steve has become a patron for CHW too. Steve has supported our projects of installing a water tank at New Life International Orphanage in Ghana, and building a playground there. He held a fundraiser where he raised enough so that a classroom could be built at the orphanage school. He has since supported various projects CHW was fundraising for in different countries.
He has said that he is “delighted to support Catherine and Children’s Helpers Worldwide, especially as fundraisers can see the tangible results she and the team deliver. If you raise ten quid for an orphanage, the ten quid is spent on the orphanage.”
We are so pleased to have Steve as our patron.
Ottilia Saxl
Ottilia Saxl was the managing director of NANO magazine and Nanoposts.com. Ottilia sponsors five children at an orphanage in Ghana through CHW, has supported our appeal supporting eleven siblings in Romania, and has helped with many other appeals in other countries too.
Ottilia has a link with the late Albert Franks, the uncle of Catherine, the founder of CHW. Ottilia has said the following on becoming a Patron of CHW:
“When I established the Institute of Nanotechnology as an educational charity in 1997, Professor Albert Franks, the head of metrology at the National Physical Laboratory, agreed to be our first Honorary President. After Professor Franks’ sad death in 2003, I was keen that his name and contribution to nanotechnology should be kept alive through an Annual Memorial Lecture. Albert’s close family were keen supporters of the Lecture, and as a result I became acquainted with Catherine, Albert’s niece.
At the Albert Franks Memorial lecture in 2009, I learned about Catherine’s work to support orphan and other needy children worldwide. Knowing the family, and being impressed by Catherine’s enthusiasm and dedication to making a difference, it has been a great pleasure for me to support this charity in a modest way.
When Catherine approached me to become a Patron, and do more for Children’s Helpers Worldwide, I was delighted to accept, and my aim is now to endorse and continue to support this excellent charity in its aim of making a difference to the lives of needy children.”
We at CHW are delighted to have Ottilia as our Patron!
Robert McHenry
Robert McHenry was for 27 years Executive Chairman of OPP Ltd, a psychometric testing and HR services company, based in Oxford, UK with offices in Europe and the USA. He founded the company in 1989. In parallel, he taught Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford from 1974 -2013 and he was elected to an Honorary Fellowship at Oriel College, Oxford in 2014.
For several years, he has supported CHW’s projects in Romania, Ghana and South Africa.
On becoming a Patron of CHW, Robert said:
“I was introduced to Catherine’s dedicated efforts at CHW by Ottilia Saxl and I was immediately struck by the fact that 100% of any donation to CHW went straight to the projects I was targeting. Although I continue to support other larger and better known charities, they all have burdensome overheads and CHW stands out for the very efficient and parsimonious way it is run by Catherine and her group of volunteers.”
All of us at CHW are very grateful to have Robert as our Patron.
We will send you information about our projects, events, appeals and fundraising campaigns and volunteer opportunities. (Please see our Privacy Policy for further details.)
